    Default glare harshest

While few currently think these two countries have a high risk of defaulting, the spotlight could turn back to Belgium and glare harshest on Italy, the third-largest euro zone economy after Germany and France, if neither can muster the political cohesion needed to assure financial markets that they can reduce their debt. Dear teacher,

I have trouble with "glare harshest". To me, "glare" is a intransitive that takes an adverb, not an adjective "harshest". Could you please explain to me? Thanks.

Although the more charitably-minded might write this off as a form of journalistic licence, strictly speaking, you are quite right: it should read 'glare most harshly...'

    Thank you, philo.

Sometimes I am confused by this kind of journalistic style.
