    Dear Teacher,

    Would you please tell me the meaning of the following sentence?

    His black hair was touched at the temples with silver.

    He had a small amount (a touch) of gray hair growing in the area between his ears and eyes (temples). Calling gray hair silver makes it sound more attractive.
    That's why I have silver (not gray) hair.
