We native speakers often tell learners to read English-language

newspapers in order to learn proper English, including the correct

use of apostrophes.

I have just read this headline from a very serious and respected

British newspaper online:

Fury at axing of childrens' free books

I am in total shock!!!

(P.S. Of course, I shan't name the newspaper.)

Hi,

Are you referring to the Guardian/Observer web site? I've just looked there and it clearly says "children's".

Regards

Apparently, someone at that newspaper is a usingenglish.com fan and

immediately corrected the error.:)

The magazine Private Eye calls it the Grauniad because it has along history of typos and errors, they say.
