    Default Quotation within quotation

An excerpt from "Pride and Prejudice":
"Darcy replied,"She is tolerable but not handsome enough to tempt me....."
What to do when there comes a quotation within quotation? Should we start the second quotation with ' or ".And how to end the sentence when both quotations end simultaneously , with " or "' or ""?
    Please, help.Thanks

    Default Re: Quotation within quotation

If the main quotation is in single inverted commas, use double ones for the internal quote and vice versa.

If they both end together, close the internal one first.

"Darcy replied,'She is tolerable but not handsome enough to tempt me.'"
