    Default meaning

I would like to ask about the meaning of the following sentences:

    1. Letís just say the finances did not quite stretch to the sitting room.
    2. Busy being waited on hand and foot by your mum I heard.

    Agnieszka

ps. Is these "the meaning" and "the following" correct?

1 I assume that it means they didn't have enough money to d something to the living-room when having other work done on the house. Maybe they decorated some other rooms.

2 The person's mother does everything for them.

Oops, sorry, I missed the question about meaning, while focusing on the "the"!
