Default Should I close my threads that show no activity?

    Dear Sirs.

Do I cause any disadvantge to the administration or resourses of UsingEnglish.com by leaving my threads open which seem to draw no attention from any 'contemporary' members? I prefer to leave them open. But more than that, I don't want to impose unnessesary burden on this great site.
    Please give me your advice.

    Best wishes,

    Hello Al,

I would leave them open; there's always a chance that someone browsing through unanswered threads will respond weeks or even months later.

Only moderators and administrators can close threads.

You can, of course, delete your own, but don't worry about them cluttering up the board.

    Hello Rover,

Thank you for your encouraging reply. I totally agree with you. As for the closing of threads, I didn't know that I am not allowed to do so; I guess I was worrying about a problem that didn't exist in the first place.
By the way I am against deleting threads since once some fellow members, even just one member, posted their opinions, I don't think I can claim the threads as mine; I'm just their OP.
I hope I didn't create many useless threads.

    Best wishes.

There's no need to close a thread and there's always a chance that someone will find it and post in it. Threads that have been inactive for a few months (6 I think, but would have to check) are closed automatically. We do this because it makes it more difficult for spambots and aggressive advertisers; they can't search for keywords and then post repeatedly on the same subject.

Should you wish to have an old thread re-opened, just let us know.

You can delete your own posts, but not whole threads- we set it like that because some people were deleting threads after people had taken the trouble to answer their questions, which was causing offence, and goes against the spirit of a forum, both as a community and as a resource. If a thread needs deleting for a particular reason, again, let us know.
