    Some words to understand

    Dear teacher,
I am giving you a few words so as to increase my vocabulary. Please clarify these words.
1_ How can we discern b/w "corporal punishment" and " capital punishment?"
2_Crimes such as "arson" and " mugging?"
    3_Criminals like "vandal?"
    4_What exactly is crime "offence?"
    5_What is "prosecution?"
    6_What is "remand home?"
7_What is "solicitor." Which side this lawyer belongs to?
Please reply because i am on my way to improving my vocabulary.
    Thanks in advance,
    Zaffar.

    Re: Some words to understand

    1- corporal- beating capital- death
2- arson- fire mugging -street robbery
7- in British English, thetre are two types of laywer- a solicitor, who does general law, and a barrister, who is more specialised. There isn't actually a job 'laywer'.
