    Default [Vocab] Flirt / Court

Can you guyz tell me some words synonymous with " flirt ", " court " or something which means the action of approaching a girl with a serious intent of making a long-term relationship.

I found " flirt " and " court " are mostly used to describe a playboy who just wanna play around with chicks.

    Thanks million !!

Court is the word you are looking for here. The problem is cultural. People don't use the word court anymore because the concept of courtship no longer exists as it once did. You can be dating someone, seeing them, going out or going steady, but you can't be courting without a suit, a bouquet of flowers, her daddy's permission and a vow of premarital chastity. Like I said, coutrship is extinct in word and deed.

In a book by Agatha Cristie (the story about a painter poisoned by his young beautiful beloved) I came across the expression "make love to smb." but I think its meaning of courting must be obsolete now (of there was any courting meant at all
You can be also *wooing* the girl of your choice, I suppose it can be related to marriage but I'm afraid I can't say how intesively it is used

'Make love to someone' with that meaning is rather dated now- I wouldn't use it because you might be misunderstood. You don't here 'woo' much nowadays either.

Yeah, these terms appear to be outdated, but what young lads do then instead of wooing?

So, can I use "pursue" then ?

...It turns out that most of the relationships today do not aim at marriages or serious intents, so mostly used words are just, as mykwyner said, date, go out, go steady.

I watch a lot of American movies but never heard of this kind of concept.

I'd use 'pursue' prior to dating, but with a degree of insistence.
