    Is this a coincidence

Are these two paragraphs grammatically correct? Which of the two is better phrased? Thanks.

Is this a coincidence that three such events occur in one week? Or that the upward trend in the counterterrorism activity is growing as the pace of terrorist activity against populated centers is increasing?

    Re: Is this a coincidence

I don't see serious grammatical errors (only a typo), but I don't follow your argument here.

You seem to be asking the readers, "Is it a coincidence that counter-terrorism grows in response to terrorism"?

Do you really intend to ask your audience such a fatuous question?

Or the "three such events" are incidences classified as counter-terrorism, not terrorism?

Using as many of your words as I can, I would have written it like this:

Is it a coincidence that three such events occur in one week, or that the upward trend in counterterrorism activity is growing as the pace of terrorist activity against populated centers is increasing?

Also, I agree with syku about the quality of your argument.

    Re: Is this a coincidence

The sentence could have made sense to you if I gave the whole context. The author wonders whether the increase in the number of detainees, related to terrorism, in one week, is a coincidence or it indicates a trend resulting from the growing terrorist activity.
