    Cool Present Simple

    Hello!

I don't know if we can use the present simple in this case, can you help me?

A: My friend is in Japan for 6 months.

B: Nice. And what does she do there?

    Thank you
    W

How about if we change the verb? Perhaps the two "do" are confusing.

Nice. And what does she sell there?

    The structure is;

she / does sell / what

Is "sell" here just an example? Or "what does she sell?" is itself a phrase?

    Will,

Your sentence A: could give the impression that your friend had just arrived in Japan and will be staying for six months.

Maybe you have based your sentence A: on a French construction using depuis,

Mon amie est au Japon depuis six mois.

I would probably say, 'My friend works in Japan. She's been there for six months now'.

    This makes it less ambiguous.

Your sentence B: 'Nice and what does she do there'. Sounds o.k. to me.

    It's correct English.
I don't much like "...what does she do there?", "...what is she doing there?" is much better in my opinion.
