"Shakespeare is known to have been an actor and playwright in one of leading companies of players at the end of 1580."

I think there ought to be "the" in "in one of the leading companies"?

"The liquid known to react with this substances is called an acid."

I would suggest that "an" is redundant here. It should be "is called acid"?

Ostap, my grammar says we should use a determiner after 'one of'. So I'd use 'the' in your Shakespeare sentence ;-)

Yes, I agree with you two. And, of course that "an" in the second acid is wrong. You are talking about the name of the substance (acid) not about one of the acids in the world.

It's a mistake to make such a dogmatic statement Leandro.

We might well be talking about 'one of the acids in the world', which I take to mean a named acid.

Without further context the original sentence sounds fine to me.
