Will RP be added? The idea seems to have the support of three members and no one has given a reason for not adding it.

Many thanks!

I've never noticed "RP" and wouldn't have had a clue what it meant without it being included in the acronyms.

I'm afraid that I haven't, in the past, personally used "received" in this context. I might have used "perceived" in a similar situation, but there's a subtle difference in nuances between the two.

The Free Dictionary, particularly the Thesaurus section, has a very good definition of "received" in this context.
received - definition of received by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia. :

Adj:
received - conforming to the established language usage of educated native speakers; "standard English" (American); "received standard English is sometimes called the King's English" (British)

Regards
R21

PS There may also be a subtle nuance difference between BrE and KE!

I just used "PM" in a post and thought this one could be added too. I'm not sure if it's not going to cause problems though. Prime Ministers may have trouble introducing themselves to us.

Maybe, but it does run a direct risk of ambiguity, like COD.

I have added it, but there's a technical issue with the config. Will get it sorted. ;-)

Now if you type BrE, AmE, ESL, TEFL, ESOL, etc, you see that there's a dotted underline and if you put the mouse over the word, you can see the phrase in full. Please make suggestion for other teaching/learning acronyms used commonly here.

The problem that now arises is that the tablets/smartphones that many people use these days don't use a mouse, so the full title doesn't appear alongside.
Any chance of displaying a copy of the listing, so that acronyms can be identified?

Regards

Could I suggest adding NESB, Non-English-Speaking Background?

And could I put another plug in for EPD (or CPD), the Cambridge English Pronouncing Dictionary?

Yes, but not just yet- I cannot save new ones- some folder permissions were changed. I hope to be able to save them soon. They were changed when trying to see what was causing the malware warnings, so I will wait for higher powers to give the go-ahead.

Reminder to self- add NNES
