In the below, I have two questions.
1.Does "shouted him down" mean they actually yelled or shouted at him and made him silent?
2.Is "saying" a following action or a simultaneous action? A participle is always confusing as it is either following or simultaenous. How do they differentiate the two? I would assume just by the context. So is it "shouted him down while saying" or "shouted him down and said"?
ex)...One myth tells how a group of gods had a meeting to decide where to hide the "truth of the universe" from people. The first god suggested putting it under the ocean, but the others shouted him down, saying that people would build an underwater boat to take themselves there to find it. A second god suggested hiding it on a planet far from the earth.....
