Hello,

I'm wondering if there's a significant difference between the sentences below.

(a lecturer to students):
(1) Last time we talked about the French revolution.
(2) Last time we were talking about the French revolution.

Does (2) imply a longer and a more active process when compared to (1)? Would a native speaker use either (depending on what they wanted to emphasize)?

Thank you!

I think I'm more likely to say "We talked about."

If the class ended before the discussion was completed, I would say "We were talking about."
