You must spell the word as best you can. You must do that in the box. I don't see your problem.

Either sentence is correct, but one is better than the other because it is clearer.

I find 'as best as you can' very clumsy.
I would prefer:
'As well as you can' or 'The best you can'.

In most situations I'd probably say the first, but both are fine.
