A lawer in his office tells his friend on the line ,"First rule of clerking. Always put the girls in with the psychopaths." I guess it's a kind of joke or he is tring to be witty or something, but I just can't figure out what this sentence means .Any help will be much appreciated.

A man is calling his friend who is maybe a director of lawyer's office ,chambers as is called. This call is made because he wants his friend to find a lawyer for him.And this friend fianlly thinks of a female lawer and in the chambers where people are all busy with calling someone on the phone ,obviously as a part of their job,he tells him on the line "Well you know what they say Brian.First rule of clerking. Always put the girls in with the psychopaths."
