I'm still a newbie here but I like this site a lot. I'm especially fond of its descriptive as opposed to prescriptive approach. But I feel that the site's coverage of idioms could be improved. The site managers seem to be somewhat reluctant to accept for publication idioms proposed to them by users.

The most likely reason for this, IMHO, is that many idioms are regional. I propose therefore to start threads in this forum about particular idioms, and I invite others to do the same. I'll put the idiom in the title and ask whether you hear it where you live or where you know the current usage, and what it means.

I hope the site administrators will use the results to improve the coverage of idioms.

My first will be an easy one. By and large.

Most of the idioms that go up come from user submissions nowadays. What exactly are you referring to? I am afraid that I am lost here.
