    Re: A Sound Identified Physically

Yes Sir. I have read that sounds in phonology can be represented in two ways

    1. Phonetic representation: This gives the minimal detail of the articulation of a sound in any language. It is the study of Allophones for example The word car
[ ka:] , in this case the sound /k/ is aspirated.

    2. Phonemic representation: is the concern of the phoneme contrast only. For example :
    /k a:/

So, can these kinds of representations give a physical identification to the sound?

It sounds a strange way of putting it to me.

    Re: A Sound Identified Physically

The physical identification of a sound would probably consist in giving the physical parameters describing the sound.

    Re: A Sound Identified Physically

Hi, yousrati. I'm not a sir.

Sound is a physical phenomenon and can be decribed as wave. Waves can in turn be described by numbers. If you want to learn more about it, you may start with Wikipedia articles such as this one: Acoustics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
