    Is there a difference in intensity between THE COACH LAID INTO / TORE INTO / RAN DOWN THE PLAYERS?

    THE COACH LAID INTO / TORE INTO / RAN DOWN THE PLAYERS?

    Yes; laid into and tore into means to yell, scream, confront.

    ran down means to criticize with negative remarks.
    put down is also another term.
