Default a game of some sort

There was a game of some sort goning on inside.

Could anyone explain this sentence to me? What does 'game' here mean? a tick or some kind of activity or sport?

    Thanks!

    lauraguan.
You will have to give more context for us to be sure what the meaning is here.
Do you have any text leading up to and/or following the sentence you've given?

Sorry, there is no more context. That's why it puzzles me. It's example sentence from a dictionary.

Sorry, there is no more context.

In that case I would assume that the most obvious meaning was intended, that there was some sort of sport or entertainment going on inside.

I agree with JMurray that it could be either a sport or playing/entertainment without further context. What exactly was the sentence trying to illustrate? If it is a example of 'some sort', it's fine because it's not a very specific or clear phrase. In fact, the speaker might not have been sure whether they were messing about or playing a sport.
