    I`d like to know the meaning of this idiomatic expression: "less than a boat's length from the ship". I would appreciate it if you would let me know in what way it may be used. Thanks!!!

    I am not aware of it as an idiom. I think you should interpret it literally; in other words it means just what it appears to mean.

    Welcome to the board, walgaby.

    We like you to provide context. Where did you read this? Who was the author?

    It probably means the length of a lifeboat from the ship, but we shouldn't have to guess.

    Please give your threads meaningful titles, such as A boat's length from the ship.
