1)"Who's been..........around with the remote control? Nothing seems to work."


2)"Can you children stop............around in here? You'll break something. Why don't you go out and play?"

We were given to options A. monkey around and B. horse around. I guess A fits in 1) and B fits in 2)?

I agree with JMurray's response. To "monkey with" or "monkey around with" generally means to "tamper" with something. Other expressions that can be used in the context of #1 are "fiddle around" and "mess with."
