    hearts and minds

I found an example in a dictionary

The story captured the hearts and minds of a generation.
    __________________________________________________ _____

    1. Are heart and mind countable? I feel they are uncountable in this sentence.

    2. I feel captured means catched here. But it means expressed as mentioned in dictionary.

    3. Overall, I feel the sentence means

The story catched the sympathy, agreemennt and understanding of the people in this generation.

    Please help.

    Re: hearts and minds

    1. It is "hearts and minds." There is not just one heart and one mind shared by everyone in the generation. They are individuals who have individual hearts and minds.

    2. The past tense of "catch" is "caught." I don't know why you would think "captured" means "expressed."

    3. Your understanding is good, except for "caught" (not "catched") and "agreement." (spelled wrong)

I don't agree capture means expressed as well. That's what the dictionary meant. (electionic dictionary - Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary)
