If I want to put a piece of writing which is quoted from other books or resources.

When I type the writing, shall I put:

1. at the beginning of the writing
quoted

2. at the end of the writing
end quoted

3. Any other words or phrases replace quoted? I remember I saw it before but I just forgot.

Please find the example as follows.
______________________________________________________

The following passage of text "Love is like oxgyen that we all need it." has been excerpted from Tom's novel by May. So May put the writing in her article as follows.

quoted
Love is like oxgyen that we all need it.
unquoted

You only say "quote" and "end quote" when you're speaking, not writing.

The style of introducing and citing quotes varies depending on the style guide you are using and there are many ways to do it.

For example,

(As) Tom writes in his novel Understanding Love through Basic Chemistry, "Love is like oxygen in that we all need it".

If you read this aloud, you'd say, "Tom writes in his novel Understanding Love through Basic Chemistry, quote Love is like oxygen in that we all need it end quote".
