So from a grammatical point of view, what would that be in terms of tense, voice, etc.

appear to have been removed
and
thought to have been destroyed

I wish somebody could help me, because I don't even know where to search in my grammar book. :)

Hi thezelva, welcome to the forum,

you could try looking under 'perfect infinitives' (in the passive).

I seem to have annoyed her yesterday (perfect infinitive in the active) = It seems that I annoyed...

Welcome to the forum, thezelva.

Please give as much context as you can with your posts - at least complete sentences. This helps us to give better answers

X appear to have been removed

X is thought to have been destroyed

The words I have underlined are perfect infinitive passive forms.

The documents appear to have been removed from Kenya as part of a policy of extracting sensitive or incriminating files from former colonies.

these are the two sentences ... though i am knee deep now in comprehensive grammar by quirk and the others :D

so it is passive perfect infinitive?

nyota thinks so. I think so.
(Well, actually, we know so - that's why we responded in the way we did.);-)

Please start a new thread for each new question to avoid confusion when different people answer different questions. If you have a question about sentence analysis, it might be better to post it in the Analysing and Diagramming Sentences
forum.
