Dear all,

I'm quite uncertain about the meaning of this phrase in the context below:

A: “Wow. You’re screwing your scooter up. How will we travel?”
B: “It is for science. I might be on to something. Anyway, I combined different types of oils to check milage. I think I can beat normal lubes by ten percent.”

Does speaker B try to say that he is indulged in something important, or? Could you please explain the meaning or suggest alternative sentence to help me understand it?

Thank you so much,

Cheelv

I might be on to something.
IIt is possible that I have discovered something (that will lead to some form of successful outcome).
