I mean, like when counting the number of messages you received,
like "I received three pieces of e-mail today" instead of "three e-mails".

That's a very good question: what quantifier is used for the mass noun e-mail? Gee, the only quantifier I've ever used with the mass noun e-mail is "ton",

EX: I've got a ton of e-mail in my inbox.

Good question! I'd like to know the answer to that one, too.

    I’m sorry to be persistent.

When I searched Google, I got 9560 hits for “pieces of e-mail” and 5 hits for “articles of e-mail”. (As for snail mail, I got 80100 hits for “pieces of mail” and 630 hits for “articles of mail”)
So, can we consider that “piece” is commonly used as the quantifier for the mass noun “e-mail”?
If anyone knows a better quantifier, please let me know!
