    Improve understanding and writing

I am doing an English major in university. When I read novels and poems,I have difficulty interpreting the underlying meanings of the texts. How can I improve myself in that?
Also, how can I achieve better marks while writing analytical essays about these novels?

Sorry for the delay in answering! One thing you could try is asking about things that you are unsure of here. Our teachers and experts will be happy to help you.
I'm not a teacher, so please consider any advice I give in that context.

Do more writing, and, especially, do more reading. Also, talk about what you read with other students. Discussing what you have read will help you acquire more understanding of it.

    Say, for example:

    • I am an English major at Ball State University.
