    Default outside the pizza place.?

Does place mean pizza building or pizza store? I haven't heard of "place" for a store, but is it common? What does it exactly mean? This is from a grammar book.

    ex)(Over the phone)
Jake: Hi, where are you? I'm right outside the pizza place.
Mina: Im so near you. I'm sitting on the bench. Can you see me?

I thought place is too general to be a restaurant, and I couldn't find any definition for that even in dictionary, I think it's a combined meaning. Anyway, thanks a lot for your ceaseless effort.

    No, it's very common.

"Did you see the new burger place down the street?"
"Let's go to the kebab place I was talking about."

    etc.
