    "differences between" or "differences of"

    Dear Sir/Madam,

I want to describe the use of some text-enhancement methods (e.g., boldface, italics, etc.) to make the differences between two words more conspicuous. I have a hard time to choose whether I should use "differences between" or "differences of". Which of the sentences below is correct? Also can you point of any other mistakes that you have realized in the sentences?

    1) One way to avoid name confusion is to make the differences of the distinct letters between confusing name pairs more conspicuous using a combination of boldface style, underline, and italics (e.g., " angle " and " angel ").

    2) One way to avoid name confusion is to make the differences between the distinct letters of confusing name pairs more conspicuous using a combination of boldface style, underline, and italics (e.g., " angle " and " angel ").

    Thanks a lot,
    Jo

Re: "differences between" or "differences of"

    NOT A TEACHER!

I would say that number 1 is the correct answer. The simpliest way to explain this is to look at my examples:

    1. The differences between Lamborghini and Aston Martin are the engine and the style.
    2. The differences of automobiles are brands and features.

    Cheers!
