    Question puzzled.....

    A colleague asked me which is the correct word for the sentence below.....

    "Taking such medicine, if _______, will cause you great harm"

    a, continue
    b, to continue,
    c, continued,
    d, continuing

    I know the correct answer is c, but am unsure as to why.

    Can anyone help?

    "Taking such medicine, if taking of it is continued, will cause you great harm".

    Because you are repeating the words taking and continued, you might as well leave those words out and keep "if continued".
