Cool in or on the lottery?

    Hello!

I say: If I won a big amount on the lottery.

But some people say "in the lottery".

    Are they both correct, please?

    Thank you for your help.

    Will

    NOT A TEACHER.

I'd go with "in the lottery." Let's wait and see what others have to say.

For example, there are several cases where individuals have won plenty of money in the lottery, but for whatever reason have declared bankruptcy a few years later.

If I win 68million on the lottery this weekend and I decide to buy an island, how much of the water around the island would I own?

    Just an AE/BE difference?

I'd go for "on". As you are living in the UK and most BrE speakers use "on", it would seem to be the best option for you.
