Hi there,

Could you explain the meaning of 'prospective student', please?

Many thanks.

I am not a teacher nor a native speaker.

I would say that's nearly the same as 'potential student' or 'forthcoming student'.
However you should wait for a teacher to respond to your question.

You are on the right lines. The difference is that a 'prospective' student is far more likely to become one.

A School of English might consider someone who has made serious enquiries about a course, and spoken of starting, as a prospective student; they might think of everybody in the city as a potential student.
