    the usage of "or"

    hello,

    my question is that in the following usage of the word "or," do we always need a comma before " or"

    acrophobia, or fear of great heights. :)

    Oh, yes. If you didn't have the comma there it would suggest that acrophobia and fear of great heights might be two different things.
