    Default as of old

    Hi

When someone says that something worked, just as of old, it means that it worked like it worked in the past?

Could any one please tell me if "as" here has the meaning like "because" or "when"?
If so, can we use "when of old" or "because of old" instead?
    Thank you so much!

It means "as (in the days) of old." No, don't substitute.
