    Default panties and panty

In AmE you call a piece of woman's underwear panties. Is panty common too?

    Default Re: panties and panty

In AmE, "panty" is usually only used as an adjective - for example, panty girdle, or panty liner.

NOTE: It's a totally irrational quirk, I know, but throughout my life I've absolutely hated the words "panty" and "panties" and have always used various euphamisms for that particular undergarment instead. Unfortunately, Mr. Ouisch is well aware of my aversion to that word and will occasionally utter it just to make me blush. As my final statement on the whole panty issue, I present one of my favorite Mystery Science Theater 3000 skits. (They were joking about a line of dialog in the movie Invasion of the Neptune Men where one Japanese scientist uttered some technical phrase like "rhodium pantium complex" and they interpreted it as "Roji Panty Complex.")
