Cool Present perfect or past simple?

    Hello!

Are we supposed to use the present perfect or the past simple in this sentence please? :

"I've tried/tried to convince her but she doesn't listen to me".

Thank you very much for your help.
    Will

You have two grammatically correct choices here:

I tried to convince her but she didn't listen to me.

    or

I've tried to convince her but she doesn't listen to me.

You should use the same tense in both clauses.

You could also have I've tried to convince here but she won't listen to me if, say, she's being stubborn.
