Dear teachers,

Would you share with me your opinion about my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

During the first day or so of any tour there are moments of bitterness when the traveler feels more than coldly towards his knapsack, when he is half in a mind to throw it bodily over the hedge.

half a mind = an inclination that is not definite or resolute

Half a mind, not half of a mind.
I've half a mind to throw that out.

Half a mind, not half of a mind.
I've half a mind to throw that out.

More pertinently, "in half a mind" not "half in a mind".

You have half a mind to ..
You are half in mind to ...

The second is far less common, but it is used

half in a mind to ...
exists, but has rarely been used since the 1930s
