    Default confusing sentence structure

    Hi,

I read this sentence in my friend's journal. How should this sentence be cleaned?

Even as basic as to only listen to English pronunciation, students are left to their own devices guess the meaning of what the teacher is saying at which point learning occurrence starts.

    Thanks

    Not a teacher

Not badly structured. To me plain incoherent. Could it be intended to mean something like the following?

Even pronunciation drills are part of the learning process, since the students will try to guess the meaning of any new vocabulary used by the teacher.
