Question Are we gonna make up the 10 minutes?

A man asked a man who was punching the tickets.

Are we gonna make up the 10 minutes?

    What does it mean?

Is it common English which uses every day?

Can you please tell me the other sentences which I can use on a train the same as the meaning of this sentence above?

    Thank you.

Re: Are we gonna make up the 10 minutes?

It sounds like the train left ten minutes late. The passenger asked the conductor if there was still a chance for arriving on time, despite the late start.

You could say "Do you still expect on-time arrival?"

I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

Smile Re: Are we gonna make up the 10 minutes?

It seems the train should be ten minutes late and the passenger asks the punching man that will the train reach the station at normal time.
In short make up means to cover or fulfil.
    THANK YOU..

I wouldn't ask any questions of a man who is punching!
