    Exclamation Re: meaning of a sentence

    Hi 1364,
    A clean bill of health is a report that says somebody is healthy or that something is in good condition.

    Hope that helps,

    Question Re: meaning of a sentence

    Hello;

    I wanna know the meaning of “clean bill of health” according to this text .(I mean can we use the formal meaning: “a report that says somebody is healthy”in this situation?

    “The nurse burst into the doctor’s office. Doctor! She yelled, you just gave a clean bill of health to Mr. Smith and he dropped dead right outside the door!”

    Many thanks in advanced

    The idiom, a clean bill of health has just the one meaning. So, yes, it means Mr Smith was found to be very healthy by his doctor. Poor soul. Maybe he should have gone to see a different doctor or maybe his untimely death was just one of those things that can't be explained.

    hela79's got it.

    His "clean bill of health" refers to his life; it's now a blank slate: it's been erased, wiped clean.
