    Default extract entitled...

"This article entitled...", and "This text is an extract from..." are expressions that are widely taught here, in France.
I've been told that they might sound a bit awkward to a native's ears. Is that true, and if so, what should be used instead?

They're OK to me. The first is a bit unecessary- if you're using 'this' then you're referring back to an earlier reference, so it's repetitious.

Thank you for your quick reply, I'll keep on using these expressions with my pupils then
