    present perfect required?

    Dear teachers,

Do you agree the present perfect would sound better in this sentence?

This situation is on the papers and the TV for weeks now.

    This situation has been ...

    Thanks

Yes, I agree, but the simple present is OK.

One of the few times I disagree with you, bhai.

This situation is in the papers and on the TV all the time (now).
This situation has been in the papers and on the TV for weeks (now).
Situations such as these are in the papers and on TV for weeks now(adays).

Those three are fine, but I just can't see that "This situation is in the papers and on the TV for weeks now" is possible. Have I missed something?

No, you haven't missed anything you are right, it's non-standard, but, in my defence, one does hear that construction.
