    What did you do?

    Dear teachers...

    in a context like this:

Mark: Something terrible has just happened.
Missy: Oh, Gosh! What did you do?

I believe Missy should have said 'What have you done?'.

    Do you agree?

    Many thanks

This depends on the full context. Missy could have been asking what Mark did in response to the happening, in which case, "What did you do?" makes perfect sense.

The response, "What have you done?" suggests that the happening was caused by Mark, so either response from Missy woukd be acceptable depending on what the happening was and what part, if any, Mark played in it.

In AmE, "What did you do?" would be an appropriate response to Mark's statement. She could mean what Buggles has already suggested, or she could mean "what did you do to make this happen?" Either way, both responses are acceptable. It seems to me that she is blaming Mark for whatever it is that happened.
