Default get on the right side of someone

‘Too close,’ she echoed. ‘They knew who I was. One of Pike’s. I shouldn’t have been in there with anything precious to sell. OldMr Green, he knew he’d get on the right side of Pike if he dragged me back.’ She laughed bitterly. ‘Pike even let him keep the mirror, he was that grateful!’

What does "get on the right side" mean?
