    about comparative usages?

    hi,

    a. The government knew more than they were telling people.
    b. The government knew more than what they were telling people.

    Which sentence is correct, why?

    (b) is correct, and can be rewritten like this :-

    "The government knew more than they were telling people what they knew."

    Sentence A is the idiomatic choice. Sentence B would sound non-standard.
