    Default purpose

    Can one say:
    1-I gave him the letter to see that he was mistaken about the date on which it was sent.
    instead of:
    1a-I gave him the letter for him to see that he was mistaken about the date on which it was sent.

    Can one say:
    2-I sent him the article to know what was going on here.
    instead of:
    2a-I sent him the article for him to know what was going on here.

    Can one say:
    3-I told him what had happened to know that his brother had lied to him.
    instead of:
    3a- I told him what had happened for him to know that his brother had lied to him.

    No. Without the 'for him' the sentences are meaningless (without an unlikely and Macchiavellian context).
