    Default take out the trash or take the trash out ??

    Dear teacher,

    Please clarify me which one of the followings is correct and for what reason:

    After lunch, Carl took out the trash.
    After lunch, Carl took the trash out.

    Both are possible.

    You can take out something or take something out.
