    Default comparatives

    Do we use "less" only with comparative adjectives that take "more"? Can we use "less" with all two- syllable adjectives? less ugly- less happy- less narrow

    No. I was less rich than I had hoped to be.

    No. It's not appropriate to use 'less' with most ungradable adjectives.
