    marie anna

my daughter came home today after having a grade 1 lesson in english.
she had a mistake and I don't know if it is wrong or right.
    can you please help.
The sentence was.... Elena and you are sisters. _______ are sisters.

my daughter put WE in the blank and was marked wrong. the correct answer being YOU.
    Why is this so?????

    Re: marie anna

The two sentences are uttered by the same speaker. 'You' (plural) can denote 'Elena and you (singular)'

ps. Welcome to the forum.. Please try to give your threads a more helpful title. Your name as a title gives us no idea what to expect.

    Re: you we they

A: You and Elena are sisters = You (two) are sisters.

A: You and Elena are sisters
    B: Yes, we are sisters.

    NOT A TEACHER

I think that "we" usually needs to include the idea of "I."

Elena and I [the speaker]are sisters. [Therefore] We are sisters.

My class went to the zoo. We enjoyed ourselves. ["My class" has the idea of

"I am in the class."] (P.S. They enjoyed themselves. = I was absent that day. I did

not go to the zoo with my classmates.)

The movie amused Mona and me. We plan to see it again today. [ That is: Mona and

I were amused by the movie.]
